week 2 Reflection

My learners have been practising past papers  to gain endorsements in the  external examinations. I am working on Achievement/Merit questions only in class as the majority of the learners working at this level and am working Excellence level during after school/Saturdays.

We had our Student Achievement conference last week, I found this event very useful to meet the parents face to face  to discuss  their progress. I  caught up with 11 parents which is very impressive to move forward.

Here is their progress. My learners found workspace(1.3 tables and graphs & 1.6 Geometrical reasoning), video lessons and online learning to catch up with the missing lesson as well as rewind learning.

Only five  more lessons left therefore my challenge is how consolidate the important facts , how to study fast and maintain the growth mindset until the examinations. I strongly believe that good planning and hard work leads to success.

Exam tips to my learners:

  • Take regular short breaks.
  • Reward yourself.
  • Do something physical.
  • Find a revision style that suits you.
  • Customise your notes to make them more personal.
  • Make sure you understand everything.
  • Study classes options.

week 5 Monitoring

I have been working very closely with the students as the exam date is getting closer and closer. This week my main focus was on time management within the exam environment. I am planning to set time and see if they are able to finish on time.

Here is the update for last week. Two students have returned from sickness and I am still trying to follow up with one other learner who has not been attending.

My learners have been working hard after school and Saturday classes. I am trying my best to motivate them as it is not easy to balance school work, extra curricular activities and other commitments. My hunch is I am able to encourage students to study hard by explaining that doing well in this exam could let them get an endorsement.

My Inquriy question 5/2

My main tweaks  are,
How to answer contextual based questions? working on key words, underlines the key concepts
, practice past paper questions and repetition.

Well being check due to CIVID distractions( Learners are away due to this)- Positive conversation
in the class room, rapping, treats, extra study class on week days and Saturdays to boost up their motivation/motivation, weekly conversations with the Whanau and effective use of the workspace.

Time management- MCAT(1.2 Algebra)- This is a one hour examination, finishing within  one hour
is a huge challenge- using SOLO taxonomy to differentiate between Achievement, Merit and
Excellence, Practice test with timer, how to choose questions in the correct order and speed tests.
Rewindable learning-Workspace, Videos , Google jamboard, chunk-check-chew strategy to
overcome this issue.

Record of the progress:Using tracking sheet to monitor their progress on achievement, attendance
and well being.

Inquiry question 5/1

Algebra(As91026)I divided my class into two groups (external group and internal group) as mentioned in my previous blogThroughout the holiday classes I was teaching, listening and marking practice tests. From this,
I identified three priority learning areas for students. The three areas are indicated on the flow chart with the
 respective implementation strategies.

This is the last term of teaching, mock exams are in week 7 and the MCAT exam is in week 8. It is paramount that
I am able to implement effective strategies to improve these priority areas. I am confident that continual check ins
on well being, practicing literacy strategies, focusing on time management (as this is an one hour examination)
and harnessing technology to prepare lessons (work space, google jam-board and online teaching etc) will bring
a better achievement to my learners. Link

will keep records of my learners' progress using a weekly progress sheet.

Term3 Plan

Here is the year planner. This term my main focus is preparing for external. Those who will be sitting

for external have completed their internal, rest of them will continue with their internals.

This term I have divided them into two groups. The first group is sitting for external, the second group is working on internal. 1.2 Algebra external exam will be on September 13th and 1.3 Tables and graphs

and 1.6 Geometrical reasoning will be on November 10th.

 External learners:

1.2 Algebra As 91027(1.2) (4 credits, External):

Applying SOLO taxonomy, to work on Achievement/Merit/Excellence. Chunk, Check, Chew strategy Workspace for rewindable learning. Using Google calendar to set lessons and video the lesson for rewinding purposes. Extra classes to support the learners who missed lesson due to COVID distractions. Peer teaching, making flash cards and wellbeing check. Weekly monitoring to track progress. . Weekly student voice and conversation with Whanau.

1.2 Algebra As 91028(1.3) (4 credits, External):

Applying SOLO taxonomy, to work on Achievement/Merit/Excellence. Chunk, Check, Chew strategy Workspace for rewindable learning. Using Google calendar to set lessons and video the lesson for rewinding purposes. Extra classes to support the learners who missed lesson due to COVID distractions. Peer teaching, making flash cards and wellbeing check. Weekly monitoring to track progress. . Weekly student voice and conversation with Whanau.

1.6 Geometrical Reasoning  As91031 (4 credits, External) CTD

Internal learners, working on Number workspace, 1.4 Linear graphs workspace and

Trigonometry workspace.

End of term reflection

My learners have been working with 1.4 Linear Algebra, eighteen of them completed their last internal and rest of them agreed to come during the holiday break to complete. My learners found it useful with keywords  using google jam-board to understand the contextual base questions. Tweak: I continued catching up with after school this week too.

There are 4 internals and 3 externals in this course. Most of my learners have completed their last internal this week and we are going to start external prep next term. One of the external real exam(MCAT-1.2 Algebra) exam will be next term and rest of them will be on Term4. I discussed with my learners with dates and external contents. The external topics are 1.6 Geometrical reasoning, 1.3 tables and graphs and 1.2 Algebra(MCAT).  There are four different  level of learners  in this class, first group will going for 3 external, second group will be going for 2 external , third group will be going for one external and fourth will be focussing on internals only. My challenge is how to cater for every 28 learners in this class.

Credits update

Credits remains the same as last week as the last internals is under marking. Here is the feedback from my learners.

1.4 linear Algebra CTD

My learners  started their practice test and my tweak(catching up with the leaners after school) worked well last week. Here is the updated results. Now 21 leaners have gained their Numeracy. Also 1.6 geometrical reasoning practice continued after school practice very eagerly too.

As91035 (1.10 )Multivariate data Evaluation and Numeracy celebration.

My learners continued to work hard and completed their third  topic last week. I found workspace beneficial in managing the test. Here are the results,

Now , there  are 28 learners in this class(as I got two more new arrivals) and 22 sat the

test and 20 of the learners completed the internal.8 learners gained Excellence,

10 learners gained Merit and 2 gained Achievement. Rest of them are still working

towards their first internals. Results are overwhelming as they have improved their

wringing skills using PEEL strategy.

Here is the feedback:

Literacy strategy

My learners have been working on 1.10 Multivariate data. I found PEEL structure very useful to write statistical statements.

Here is the frame work I used to write statements. I started with the above framework and they have started to to write freely without the frame work. My learners found it really handy.

What is PEEL?
