Term2 reflection

 My class, 10PDv - My learners have completed both assessments: Geometry and Pythagoras/Trigonometry. The Measurement and Geometry assessment results are now available, and the Pythagoras/ trigonometry section will be tested next term. There has been a significant improvement in their academic performance, well-being, work ethic in class, and attendance, largely due to the positive influence of the Do Nows and study classes.

As seen in the Geometry/Measurement summary statistics, there is a noticeable positive shift, indicating that the "Do Now" activities are having a significant impact on assessment performance, especially as their questions and topics are closely aligned.

As we planned, the Numeracy study class for the whole cohort of Year 10 had an attendance of around 30 students and has been very successful. We will be continuing it next term as well. 

My focus group and cross-curricular subject teachers completed their Do Nows, which made an impact on our students' achievement, too. The science department successfully completed the ViTaL sheet there I gave rewards to the Science Department.

Numeracy Exam in May: Year 11s and one group of Year 12/13 have completed their Numeracy exam in May and awaining for the results. The second round of the exam will be held in May.

Holiday study class

 Year 11 students will be sitting the Numeracy exam in May (Week 5). To support them, we ran holiday classes during the first week for Year 11s, as well as a few Year 12 and 13 students who have enrolled to sit the exam. Learners focused on past papers from 2011 and 2012 (Term 2 and Term 3 papers). Attendance was around 30 students for the first two days, dropping to around 20 later in the week due to weather warnings.

As I mentioned, there has been a positive shift in the results, and I plan to continue the study class, as it is having a powerful impact in all areas, including whānau engagement.

 My learners have completed the internals except for one learner, and now they are working towards the external examination.

Here is the breakdown: five gained 18 credits, 10 gained 15 credits, and two gained 10. This means they have met partial tertiary entry qualification before external examinations. Holiday classes continue and working towards external examinations.

 My learners came in the first week of the holiday and worked on externals and worked by themselves with minimal help from me. I am so impressed by the way worked on externals. 

Extra for experts

 A group of students, working faster than the deadline, wanted me to do an additional internal(3.10, 4 credits) as an extension. They came during the holidays too. This internal is also currently undergoing marking/ moderation.

Collaboration with Epsom Girls' Grammer:

One of the learners is very eager to do the year 13 Statistics scholarship, so I reached out to, Dr. Marion Steel(Director of the Mathematics department) from Epsom Girls' Grammer, she graciously visited to assist in planning the scholarship program and agreed to provide support. Additionally, she brought along some resources. Here are the materials.

Chunk Check Chew strategy(CCC's) by Kathleen Kryza

 My learners are putting in a lot of effort to prepare for mock examinations. Last week, I began the revision process. I discovered that Chunk Check Chew is extremely beneficial for preparing for the mock examinations.

What is the Chunk Check Chew strategy?

Chunk -This involves breaking down study materials into smaller, manageable " chunks". Focusing on smaller pieces of information at a time can make learning more manageable and help prevent from overwhelmed.

There are 13 learners in the classroom. 5 learners have gained Excellence,  4 learners have gained Merit, 3 learners have gained Achievement, and one more learner work on progress.

 I have marked and got moderated here are the outcomes.

My learners worked so hard during class time, after school, and during holidays. As a result 5 Excellence, 7 Merits, 2 Achievement, and 1 student's work in progress. These two internal have been completed with 6 credits. My own videos, divided this long assignment into 3 checkpoints to give feedback, and PEEL structures and flexibility helped them to do their best.

First topic Term1

 As91261-Coordinate Geometry(2 credits, Internal)

As I indicated on my planner there are two topics for the term. The first topic for the term is Coordinate geometry. This is an internal worth of 2 credits and the test is in week 5.

What is coordinate geometry? This is one of the most interesting topics in Mathematics. It is a combination of Geometry, Algebra, and graphs. Learners are expected to have a deep understanding of these topics. It provides geometric aspects in Algebra and enables to solve of geometric problems.

Here is the plan:

• Apply SOLO taxonomy- every lesson I mention about SOLO in class to reach their utmost potential.
• Comprehension -Vocab introduced(My definition strategy), underlining the keywords, understanding the background of the scenario, and making them read to get enhance reading fluency.
• ViTaL sheet.
• Peer teaching- Made them into groups and worked on the whiteboard to build confidence.
• Workspace and Google Calendar.
• Video Lessons- Video series and my video.
• Google jam board to familiarize yourself with shapes and properties.
• PEE Structure to strengthen their writing skill.
• Working with Dr. Jannie.
• Desmos to create shapes.
• Morning study class for those missed lessons due to other commitments.
