Plan Plan for Term4/Monitoring CTD

My learners will be sitting their external examination on the 8th of November. There are 10 lessons left from today.

I started my Monitoring last term and it was productive as the derived grade examination results are impressive,  therefore  I am going to continue this term as well.

Enquiry question(5)

Causal Chain:

At our last CoL teachers meeting, we discussed the importance of a causal chain to make the inquiry more effective.

A causal chain is when a cause leads to an effect and that effect becomes the cause of another effect.

A leads to B. B leads to C. C leads to D.

Any intervention you design will (consciously or not) be based on a causal chain you have in mind - this is your theory of action.

A causal chain is the path of influence running from a root cause to the problem. Each link in the chain represents something in the real problem.

Tweak-Causal Chain and external focus:
The time has come to aim for the prize. My learners' strong performance in the internal assessments has provided them with a solid foundation. By concentrating on excelling on external examinations, they are positioning themselves for an endorsement. This will acknowledge their current capability and set them up for future success. Also guiding them as they prepare for the externals exams, maximizing their chances of achieving the desired outcome.
Here is my causal chain, this tweak may change over time.

I have planned to monitor their progress learning and well-being weekly by surveying learners/ whanau and maintaining a running record with smiley faces. Here is the link

External topic Term3-As91267 Probability methods

As91267(2.12) Probability methods -External -4 credits

My learners have completed all the internals and stepped into external last week.

What are Probability methods? This involves Probability fundamentals, Probability models, Condition probability, Expected probability, Statistical Inference, and Problem-solving. This will be assessed through the end-of-year examination(8/11/2023) and learners will sit the derived grade examination during week 10.

Here is the plan:

  • Applying SOLO taxonomy provides a deeper understanding, higher order thinking, and assessing student learning outcomes. It improves teacher practice and enhances student achievement.
  • Check list.
  • Chunk check chew strategy.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Monitoring.
  • Peer teaching
  • Workspace and Google Calendar.
  • Study classes
  • Making videos by learners.
  • Using will be using Walker's textbook.
  • NZQA past paper

Third topic Term2-Systems of Equations

2.14 Systems of equations -Internal -2 credits

My learners have completed the fourth internals; this is the fifth(last) internal and third topic for term 2, worth 2 credits and the internal assessment will be next term.

What are Systems of equations? This is a short standard that assesses a student's ability to solve a pair of equations Algebraically or graphically. For the graphical method, desmos graphing calculator can be used.

  • Applying SOLO taxonomy provides a deeper understanding, higher order thinking, and assessing student learning outcomes. It improves teacher practice and enhances student achievement.
  • Vocabulary for the introduction.
  • Reading comprehension-
  • ViTaL sheet.
  • Peer teaching- Made them into groups and worked on the whiteboard to build confidence.
  • Workspace and Google Calendar.
  • Literacy strategy-PEE structure.
  • Study classes
  • Desmos Graphing calculator to draw and recognize the graphs.
  • Working with Marc Milford for literacy strategies.
  • Think loud strategy-Marc Milford.

Second topic Term2-Statistical Experiments

As91265(2.10) Statistical Experiments -Internal -3 credits

My learners have completed three internals; this is the fourth internal and third topic for term 2, worth 3 credits and the internal assessment will be in week 10.

What are Statistical Experiments? This involves experiments, collection, and data analysis, to make a conclusion/Prediction of the population. This is the softer version of 2.9 Statistical Inference so it will be a breeze for my learners.

Here is the plan:

  • Applying SOLO taxonomy provides a deeper understanding, higher order thinking, and assessing student learning outcomes. It improves teacher practice and enhances student achievement.
  • Vocabulary for the introduction.
  • Reading comprehension-
  • ViTaL sheet.
  • Peer teaching- Made them into groups and worked on the whiteboard to build confidence.
  • Workspace and Google Calendar.
  • Video series. Link
  • Literacy strategy-PEE structure.
  • Study classes
  • Collaboration with 12Mat.

First topic Term2

 As9126159-Trigonomtry(3 credits, Internal)

My learners have successfully completed two internals and this is the third internal and the first topic for term 2, worth 3 credits and the internal assessment will be in week 5.

What is Trigonometry? Trigonometry has numerous applications in various fields, including physics, engineering, architecture, computer graphics, navigation, and astronomy. Overall, trigonometry provides a set of tools for understanding and manipulating the geometric and angular aspects of the physics world.

Here is the plan:

  • Apply SOLO taxonomy- It provides a deeper understanding, higher order thinking and assessing student learning outcomes. It improves teacher practice and enhances student achievement.
  • Vocabulary for the introduction.
  • Reading comprehension- Learners must comprehend trigonometric concepts by reading textbooks, problem statements, and explanations. I encourage reading strategies such as high light key points, annotating, and summarizing to enhance understanding.
  • ViTaL sheet.
  • Peer teaching- Made them into groups and worked on the whiteboard to build confidence.
  • Workspace and Google Calendar.
  • Google jam board to familiarize yourself with shapes and properties.
  • Literacy strategy-Think loud and KWL.
  • Working with Mark Milford.
  • Study classes.

First topic Term1

 As91261-Coordinate Geometry(2 credits, Internal)

As I indicated on my planner there are two topics for the term. The first topic for the term is Coordinate geometry. This is an internal worth of 2 credits and the test is in week 5.

What is coordinate geometry? This is one of the most interesting topics in Mathematics. It is a combination of Geometry, Algebra, and graphs. Learners are expected to have a deep understanding of these topics. It provides geometric aspects in Algebra and enables to solve of geometric problems.

Here is the plan:

  • Apply SOLO taxonomy- every lesson I mention about SOLO in class to reach their utmost potential.
  • Comprehension -Vocab introduced(My definition strategy), underlining the keywords, understanding the background of the scenario, and making them read to get enhance reading fluency.
  • ViTaL sheet.
  • Peer teaching- Made them into groups and worked on the whiteboard to build confidence.
  • Workspace and Google Calendar.
  • Video Lessons- Video series and my video.
  • Google jam board to familiarize yourself with shapes and properties.
  • PEE Structure to strengthen their writing skill.
  • Working with Dr. Jannie.
  • Desmos to create shapes.
  • Morning study class for those missed lessons due to other commitments.
